Tinnitus
Tinnitus is a condition when a person hears a ringing sound or a different variety of sound when no corresponding external sound is present and other people cannot hear it. Tinnitus is the medical term for "hearing" noises in your ears. It occurs when there is no outside source of the sounds.
Tinnitus sound may occur on one ear or both ears.
Causes of Tinnitus:
- Exposure to loud sounds.
extreme stress or trauma.
degeneration of the hair cells in the cochlea. - Ear problems, such as otosclerosis (abnormal bone growth in the middle ear).
- Meniere’s disease (swelling of a duct in the ear).
- If any small insects go into your ear it may create a buzzing sound.
Treatment:
- Earwax removal — Removing earwax blockage can decrease tinnitus symptoms.
- Sound Therapy — You may find that it’s only in a noticeably quiet environment that the condition distresses you. Sound therapy works to distract you from the tinnitus using pleasant background noises.
- Hearing aids — If you’re experiencing challenges with your hearing as well as tinnitus, a combination of a hearing solution with built-in sound generators can often be prescribed.
